Bold Color Collisions Turn Dice into a Medium of Art

Creating art requires bold ideas. With the Victory Renaissance series, we set out to transform dice into a canvas by blending large fields of color within wood and resin, creating an entirely new artistic expression.

From Experiment to Innovation

Our first approach was straightforward: placing dyed wooden blocks directly into dice molds and filling the remaining space with resin.

However, we quickly discovered an important limitation. Because the flat surfaces of the wooden blocks could not perfectly match the angled faces of the dice, the colors appeared only as small dots or thin streaks after polishing. The effect felt rigid and fragmented, far from the bold, flowing color compositions we envisioned.

After countless experiments and refinements, we finally found the solution.

A Gemstone-Inspired Crafting Process

Instead of shaping the dice first, we reverse the process.

Dyed wooden blocks are first embedded into specially colored resin and left to cure completely into a single solid block. Once fully hardened, the composite material is carefully hand-cut into smaller pieces and then precision-ground into dice.

This technique closely resembles gemstone cutting, allowing every die to reveal dramatic, naturally flowing color compositions that cannot be achieved through conventional casting.

The Final Result

The finished dice combine irregular, expressive color fields with the perfect geometry of precision-cut polyhedrals. The contrast between organic patterns and precise forms creates a design that is bold, balanced, and visually striking.
